As a close friend I am writing on behalf of Helen and Ray to update you on Helens journey over the past few weeks. Many of you will be aware that she has had some enormous challenges with tumours on her spine which fractured her vertebrae, causing her tremendous pain and discomfort. Thankfully Helen was able to have very intensive radiation treatment. Along with a recent stay in the Waipuna hospice, this pain has been managed to the point that she has been able to return home. Every day she has been regaining her strength and vitality and is getting around with the aid of a walker. I know a deep disappointment for her over this time was missing her grandson Jeds first birthday, but despite these setbacks and let downs - it's been amazing to see the Helen we all know and love remain positive and upbeat, always thinking about and encouraging others, even in the middle of a very trying time. She has been so blessed by the love and support so many have shown to her, but as you must realise for anyone going through this - cancer costs. Its not just the physical and emotional toll, but it's a lost income and the ability to generate one. It's because of this that I'm writing this to you all. Many of you have asked how you can help and many of you have been so generous. However the costs of the ongoing treatment, the cost of some of the alternative therapy and ongoing appointments really mount up. The proceeds from the give a little page has been a godsend in so many ways to allow her to pursue some of the treatments that have given her relief to date. But I also know first hand that the stress and anxiety of these mounting costs can take their toll and as much as I know that Helen would hate to ask and this in itself is so humbling for her to admit, I'm putting it out there anyway- knowing each and every one of you do understand and would each tell her not to be silly! So for this reason, on a purely practical note, can I ask if you can spare a few dollars, a little goes a long way and collectively would make a huge difference for Helen and Ray at this time. Thank you each one for your messages of support, continued prayers and love for dear Helen. And for your kind interest in her journey; a burden shared is a burden halved. Arohanui,
