Please help Alfie walk again after a dog attack. He has had costly hip surgery but we are still not sure why he is not 100% yet.
Auckland
On 13th September 2019, I was walking Alfie at Auckland Botanical Gardens when an unregistered dog randomly attacked Alfie. After the first attack the owner tried to hold her dog, but because the owner had no leash and no collar, she was unsuccessful in restraining the dog which led to Alfie being attacked twice. The owner received a small fine from the council, however, I have been left with a traumatic experience and repercussions. A regular walk became a nightmare.
I took Alfie straight away to the Vets and After hours where they found that he had dislocated his hip and they tried putting his hip back but it was unsuccessful. Alfie was then referred and treated at Veterinary Specialists Auckland where he had an open hip reduction surgery and stabilization with a toggle rod.
After this costly surgery, he is still not 100%. We don't know why he is not recovering and I have taken him in for further tests. He will now require further surgery to investigate what is affecting him using his leg and maybe part of the implant is still bothering him.
It is Unfortunate that Alfie does not have pet insurance and it has been frustrating that it is what people say for their first response. Alfie is a loving, playful dog who is harmless and enjoys being active. I have had to borrow money to pay for his expensive surgery and any help is appreciated.
The money that you contribute will be going towards his surgery, further tests and his rehab. Our life revolves around Alfie and we are all upset and want him to be ok. It is sad seeing him unable to use his leg.
