Raising funds to enable Ang access to cancer treatment that will allow her to build more memories with her husband and 3 year old daughter
Canterbury
On January 2017 our world changed when my wife, Angela (43), and mother to our little girl, Emma (3), was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer.
Having stage 4 metastatic colon cancer, means that the cancer that evolved in the colon has spread to other parts of the body. This stage is the most advanced and has no cure. It is terminal.
As her cancer is so advanced, she relies on oncology to stay alive. However, after 2 rounds of chemo therapy and an operation to remove part of the colon, the cancer is still spreading and growing. A recent meeting with the specialist concluded that the best chance Ang has to prolong her time with us, and build more memories with our daughter, is to undergo a treatment (Cetuximab) which is not funded in New Zealand.
The monthly cost for the treatment, specialist appointment and blood tests is approximately $8700 / month for the first 4.5 months, and $3,200 / per month for 7.5 months thereafter. A grand total of $64000.
As our family resources will not stretch that far, we are appealing to you to help us raise the funds needed to keep our beloved, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend with us further.
On behalf of our family; our heartfelt thanks for taking the time to read this page, and for any contribution you can provide towards the cost of the treatment.
With all our love
The Darwent family
The money will be spent for the treatment (Cetuximab) and associated medical costs.
Thank you to all who donated 23 November 2019
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your kindness and generous donations. After 5 months of treatment the non-funded Cetuximab treatment is no longer effective so Angela will be exploring other options for treatment. We cannot ask for any more than what has already been donated, people's compassion and generosity over this time has been overwhelming. Thank you again to all.
Matt, Angela and Emma.
