David’s battle with cancer has unfortunately taken a turn for the worst. Let’s help him out.
Southland
David Davies (Beanie) has had a love for tenpin bowling since he was a teenager.
He has represented New Zealand and the regions he has lived in for many years. He has also given a lot back to the sport by helping out at tournaments by collating the results and has volunteered for a number of years with TBNZ.
David was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer in April 2019 which had also spread to his liver.
Following various treatments including chemotherapy, things looked up for a while there as the tumours (and pain levels) reduced and the cancer cells in his blood count almost disappeared earlier in 2020.
But things have turned back around. Beanie’s body is no longer responding positively to the treatment and there is only one last resort of treatment to try.
The doctor is unable to give Beanie a timeframe of how long he might have with us, and has suggested he sort hospice care in case things get bad super quick.
David’s parents have been helping fund his private cancer treatment - the medicines that are incredibly costly and not funded in New Zealand but have very much played a part in giving him more time since his diagnosis.
When Beanie was asked what the things are that he would most like to do while he is well enough to do so, he said he would love to see a part of New Zealand he has never had the opportunity of seeing. David would love to head down south to the West Coast to the Doubtful Sound and enjoy a cruise past the glaciers.
That sure does sound bliss, doesn’t it!?
Beanie has given so much to us over the years. Let’s all give back and help him to tick something wonderful off his bucket list.
My sister Vicki and I are long-time friends of David (aka Beanie) through tenpin bowling.
The money would be spent on travel costs to get David from Auckland to Queenstown, then down to Doubtful Sound. It would be spent on a glacier cruise and accommodation before heading back home.
