Help Bek raise funds for top surgery!

I'm Bek. (they/them).

I am a 25 year old non-binary post grad student.

My interests in post grad are queer theory, disability theory and indigenous theories : especially how these interact with each other.

This page is dedicated to helping me raise funds for top surgery!

I am most comfortable and feel most myself when I'm wearing a binder, but after half a day of wearing it I am physically very uncomfortable. It is a daily toss up of being physically uncomfortable or mentally and emotionally uncomfortable and self-conscious.

Being able to get top surgery would be a huge weight off my chest! Hah. And would allow me to be content in the world every day, knowing that this is how I want my body to be!

I have been a student for the last 7 years, gaining my undergraduate degree last year. I have been unable to work much because I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and required many surgeries to do with that. Getting a degree and continuing with post grad study is a huge achievement for me!

Because of this, I don't a great deal of savings.

Top surgery in New Zealand costs around $18,000 !

The Public Health system has funding for top surgery, but the list is very long and only one person a year is picked. Due to my other health conditions the chances of getting picked from this list are extremely slim.

Over the next year or so I am going to be saving as hard as I can on the small amount of income I receive.

The purpose of this page is to raise as much as possible, all of which will go directly to my top surgery fund.

I am aiming to get top surgery as soon as possible; realistically over the next 2-3 years.
