Help bring Nemo home!

Nemo is a rescue dog who was abused, abandoned and left for dead. Please help me bring him home so he can live a happy and carefree life.

Canterbury

Nemo was found by a passerby in an abandoned house with his throat cut, left for dead, alone. The vets said he had most likely survived a day or more in that state of suffering before the person found him, the dirt and blood coagulating, preventing him from bleeding out. Amazingly he survived having his jugular vein cut, although the wound became infected and they had to remove his salivary gland. He was operated on and recovered from the surgery. During this time, the vets noticed that at some point earlier in his life the owners had also cut out his tounge, amoungst other obvious forms of abuse and extreme malnourishment.

Nemo is a Podenco Canario, a special breed of dog from the Canary Islands in Spain, typically used for hunting. These dogs are famous on the islands for the amount of mistreatment and abuse they receive from the hunters. As they typically hunt in groups; most hunters have 10-15, they are kept is terrible conditions, starved and expendable.

I am a vet nurse and while volunteering at the local SPCA they told me about Nemo and I said I could foster him, caring for his wounds. Over the next few months as he recovered, I realised I would not be able to give him back to the shelter.

These last two years he has learned to play with other dogs, enjoy the beach and even go on a road trip. It will still take him a long time to overcome his years of abuse but little by little he is learning to trust and enjoy life. This is why I can't leave him. It wasn't in my plan to adopt a dog overseas as I know how complicated it is to travel with them, but.. some things you just can't help.

Right now it just isn't possible for me to afford this on my own. I would be so grateful for all help received, no matter how big the contribution, and Nemo too.

I am an artist specialised in pet portraits. I would like to offer a personalised drawing for all donations over $300 here is the link to my page:

Thank you so much!

Use of funds

The cost of bringing Nemo from Spain to New Zealand is about $7000 and I would like come home before the end of this year. Any surplus I would donate to a charity that helps Podencos here in the Canary Islands.

Latest update

Extension of page!  10 September 2018

Hello everyone, I'd like to thank you all again for helping me with this because without people like you I wouldn't be able to even dream of bringing Nemo home with me.

This update is to say that I have been able to extend the page for six more months. I'm hoping that in that time I will have enough to be able to at least book the tickets. Until now I've had a bit of a space issue but this month I can finally get started on the artworks for the auction, which when ready I will kindly ask of those who can to spead the word.

For now it's looking like I won't be able to come home until the start of next year. I've decided I wouldn't be able to leave Nemo behind even if I can bring him home later.

So thanks again! xxx

P.s Here's a wee video of Nemo playing with his ball, one of his favourite things.

This dog's been through so much, please don't give up on it! Iam hoping that karma will slowly and painfully cause suffering to his owner who committed these sick acts on it.
