Greyhound Jimbo took a tumble out on his run and remains at the vets to establish the reason for his paralysis while vet costs are mounting.
Auckland
Jimbo is a 5 year old greyhound who was living his best retired life when he went for a run at Meola Reef on Friday. He stepped into a hole and took a big tumble and while he seemed fine at first, by the time he got home, he had collapsed in the back of the car and had a seizure and was rushed to Emergency Vets where he remains.
On Saturday, Jimbo was alert but unable to move his back legs. Xrays showed no damage to the neck. He is today, Sunday, making some progress and able to stand with support and took a few steps with the help of a sling, which is encouraging. He remains at Emergency Vets and will be transferred to a specialist to have a CT scan on Monday to get the full picture.
Vet costs for Jimbo are being quoted in excess of $5,000 including the CT scan and are likely to increase significantly before Jimbo can walk again. I want to help his owner with the initial blow of the vet costs to ensure the vets can find the cause of his paralysis and help Jimbo walk again, especially after he has shown some progress today.
I am involved with Greyhounds as Pets and know Penny because she adopted one of our beautiful greyhounds.
Funds will be used to pay for Jimbo's vet costs, already exceeding $5,000. Any funds raised in excess of his vet costs will be donated to the Greyhounds as Pets charity that Jimbo was adopted from.
Greyt news! 16 July 2020
Hi all! We are absolutely blown away by your support - thank you!
We want to share some amazing news with you. Jimbo is on the mend. He went for a trip to a specialist greyhound vet today and we got more insight on what caused his paralysis. The vet diagnosed a contusion and bleed on the spinal column in the neck, which had caused the loss of movement, and a concussion, causing the seizures and wobbles.
Jimbo has a long road ahead, before he is back to a stable gait with lots of rest and tiny walks and greyhound sprints may be off the menu for a long time yet. It is thought though that he will make a full recovery.
Thank you for your support and we will close the page this week. Any funds in excess of what is required for Jimbo will go to the Greyhounds as Pets charity to help their hounds with a few high vet bills received recently.
Jimbo thanks you kindly
