I am one of only 8 kiwi costume designers to be selected to attend the World Costume Design exhibition with my costume titled Angel – Greatest Show on Earth. Out of 1,300 submissions I was one of 250 costume designers worldwide to be chosen for their INNOVATIVE COSTUME OF THE 21ST CENTURY: THE NEXT GENERATION exhibition. I am so honoured to have been chosen to take part and it is an absolutely incredible opportunity to showcase my work and get my name out into the world.

I am a budding designer with a degree in costume design and management from Unitec and have experience working in the film and theatre industry. I have always had a passion for art and costume and theatre and when I realised this was something I could actually do, I knew it was the right path for me. I feel that I have the potential to contribute more to the industry in New Zealand and this will be my first step towards it.

My piece is called ANGEL-Greatest Show on Earth

It was inspired by one of the costumes the character Angel wears to ride the elephant in the 1952 film the greatest show on earth. I made the costume for my final project in the third year of my degree. I put an estimated 100 hours into this costume, possibly more, from the pattern making process right through to hand sewing on the ribbon detail and each bead. I am so proud of the work I have done and I still cant believe this is really happening.
