Help to raise funds to pay for Liam's chemotherapy (unfunded by Pharmac)
Bay of Plenty
Liam and I moved to out of Auckland 3years ago to start our exciting life adventure together. We brought a house, found out I was pregnant and within 2months of these achievements, Liam received the life changing diagnosis of Hodgkins Lymphoma.
In July 2016 he underwent his first chemotherapy for 6months. In October 2016, although neutropenic (low level of red blood cells) Liam managed to be present in the delivery room to welcome our daughter into this world.
Liam was advised that all was looking great; he was in remission and was able to return back to work.
In March 2017, back pain took over his life and left him unable to work or even help take care of his newborn daughter. After multiple doctors’ visit and hospital admissions we were then given the sad news that his Lymphoma had returned, Chemotherapy started again 6months later and after a month long hospital admission for his final chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, Liam was able to return home and spend his daughters 1st birthday with her and our friends and family.
Within a month, we then found out that the cancer was more progressive and the chemotherapy and stem cell transplant hadn't worked.
At this point we have now almost exhausted all our options within public healthcare and are coming to the end, Liam was offered a spot on a drug trial to test if Keytruda (the miracle drug for breast cancer) could work effectively as another treatment option for Hodgkins Lymphoma, After 4 infusions over 15 weeks, he was taken off the trial as the cancer was deemed too progressive for this treatment.
We have now received funding for Brentuximab Vedotin which is an auto immune drug that helps your immune system attach to the cancer proteins and kill them, This treatment has given Liam a 30% success rate on its own, but together with a different chemotherapy treatment called Bendamustine - he would receive a higher success rate. As these drugs work better in conjunction with each other we need funding to pay for the administration of the Bendamustine, as our local public hospital has declined our request to provide care and treatment and we have been told we would need to go through a private sector.
Liam is a loving and caring husband and father and a hard worker. He is a quiet and reserved person who has been determined to cover all expenses through our own means; however it is at the point where we have no option but to ask for help,
Please help us get the care and treatment he requires so that he can continue to watch his daughter grow and give him a fighting chance to beat this disease.
We are still to find out the final treatment costs per cycle (2days every 4weeks)
Liam is my husband
The funds raised will go towards Liam's treatment and associated administration costs
Remission has arrived 21 August 2018
Thank you to everyone who has donated to this page with all your help we have managed to get enough to cover the cost of the drug and Liam is now in complete remission!!!
Thank you all for your ongoing support
