Help us to raise funds that will go towards purchasing a car for Mark to give him back his independence.
Auckland
If you don't know Mark from the gym then you will probably know him as a part of the Hibiscus Coast Community because of his big smile and friendly nature.
Here is a little bit of a background story on Mark.
Over 7 years ago Mark had just finished work and was driving home with his two children in the car when he suddenly he blacked out from a stroke and crashed his car. Luckily his children were ok but Mark ended up with a serious brain injury and lost full function of his body. The first four years were hard for him and he spent time in ABI rehabilitation centre helping with speech therapy and learning to walk again.
Since then Mark has been an Anytime Fitness Whangaparaoa member and has consistently come in to the gym five to six times a week since he started, his walking has improved and he has lost 10 kilograms. Most members and staff know Mark as he will always stop to chat or mention some encouraging words that help to brighten up your day.
Even though Mark struggles with day to day life he is always happy, making people laugh or motivating people around him. Mark says that the reason for this are his children, "every time I feel down I think of them which lifts my spirts back up and that's my aim to live healthier so I can be there for them. I won't be able to carry on and try new things or participate with all their needs but to be there for them is the next best thing".
About a month ago Mark's car stopped working and he has lost a lot of his independence. His car is too expensive to fix and Mark is financially not able to buy another car. He now has to rely on other forms of transport to get around and attempts to walk to the supermarket from his house which has been putting a lot of stress on his legs.
We want to help with this!!
Mark is such an important part of our gym family and also a big part of the community that we want to help raise money to buy him another car and give him back his independence.
We are running a 48 hour Spinathon where we will attempt to keep two stationary bikes moving for 48 hours. The Spinathon will begin on Friday 2nd of July at 1pm and run until Sunday 4th of July at 1pm, there will be a list of time slots throughout the 48 hours that participants (gym members and community) can commit to riding the bike for that time.
How can you be a part of the fundraising?
1. Participate in the Spination: You can jump on a bike and ask family and friends to donate money for your efforts.
