Using my voice as a youth in NZ on climate change at the global level!
Waikato
Climate change is one of the biggest threats we are facing. Our youth is our future and will be affected by climate change in the long term so our voice needs to be heard.
I have been given a massive opportunity to attend the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 24) in Poland. The event is being held in Katowice from Dec 3-14, 2018. I have been accepted to be part of the delegation on the Aotearoa Youth Leadership Institute to use my voice as a youth in NZ on climate change.
With representatives from 196 countries, the press and media, and civil organisations (e.g. NGOs), this provides me with the perfect chance to take action and be heard on climate change. At the conference, we have the ability to ask government delegates the hard questions and make our statements.
I know the timing is really short, but I NEED your help! I am a student so this trip is financially difficult. Will YOU help? You can give as little or as much as you like - I truly appreciate it!
Once I return to NZ, I will continue with my PhD studies on climate change policy and share my knowledge, ideas and experiences with our youth and others in the community to help them become more informed of climate change issues and how it will affect their lives.
I'm looking forward to how WE can make a difference!

Pre-COP24 Training Weekend - Reflections 22 November 2018
With one week to go before I leave for Poland to attend the UN Climate Change Conference, I joined my AYLI team on our training weekend in Auckland.
We learned the many facets of the conference - what are the procedures, expectations and avenues for action or participation? We also became readily aware of the challenges and politics surrounding climate change and the negotiations. What factors are causing tension between the global north and south, states and civil organisations etc? We learned about our potential role as one of the YOUNGO. There were many critical questions to be asked and many still to be developed.
For the next month, I will be covering my experience, thoughts and learnings from the ground at COP24.
Thank you again for those who have supported my passion - I'm excited to be bringing you all along on this journey.
