Help me with my dream to publish my children's books
Auckland
Hi,
My name is Lia. I live with Cerebral Palsy, and writing is my passion. I have long had a dream to publish my poems and children's picture books. Much of my work is inspired by personal experiences and from those around me. I use poetry and rhyme to capture the interest of the reader/listener. My influences are Margaret Mahy, Lynley Dodd, Roald Dahl, and Dr Seuss - (to name a few!)
I currently have 6 books written, and would love to share them with the public. I believe reading is a very important part of a child's development and would love to be a part nurturing and growing their love of reading (and writing!)
One of my books "Wilbur takes Flight" is about a little monarch caterpillar who can't wait to fly.
Excerpt;
'Wilbur was a dreamer. He was, some might say, an impatient little caterpillar, always trying to fast-pace his way through life. The smallest in his family, he often felt he had something to prove. He wanted to be the biggest and the best.
“I want to be the biggest; I want to be the best.
I will prove to everyone I’m better than the rest.
I will show my family, they’ll be surprised, you’ll see,
I will show them just how big a little guy can be.
So many times they’ve told me, that I can’t do these things,
so tonight’s the night, upon this star I wish my dreams had wings”
And with that, Wilbur curled up on his favourite leaf and closed his eyes.
Morning came, and as the sun rose, so too did Wilbur. His brothers and sisters were still sleeping, and did not hear him as he crawled away from the tree.'
The story continues with Wilbur setting off to find a way to fly and make his dream come true.
Note: Picture shown is from another of my stories, and an indication of the pictorial style I would like for my books.
