Please help fund the drug Keytruda for Mel to help keep her alive for her boys, husband and family and friends.
Auckland
Anyone who has met Mel will know how wonderful she is. She is always smiling and once you have met her you can’t help but love her.
She has 2 beautiful boys, Eli who is in his last year at Gladstone Primary and Theo who has just finished his last year at MAGS and a loving husband Martin.
Much of the Mount Albert Community know and love Mel after 17 years living there with her family and from her business the Little Flower Shop which unfortunately she had to sell in November 2017 due to ill health.
In early 2017 Mel started feeling unwell with a painful shoulder. In July 2017 she was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. Mel has been taking a drug called Tarceva which after one year has now stopped working. Mel has been advised that her only chance now is with Chemo which will give her 4-5 months and with the miracle drug Keytruda. Unfortunately Keytruda for the treatment of lung cancer is not funded by Pharmac, and the cost of this is $100,000 for the first year and $30,000 for each subsequent year.
Mel wants to be around for her children as long as possible to share as many milestones with them as she can. Mel has been quite private up to now about the extent of her situation, and hates asking for help. However she now needs our financial help to give her the best chance she can to beat her cancer so that her boys and Martin can have their Mum and wife and we can have our much loved friend for as long as possible.
Mel is a much loved friend and neighbour. We are wanting to help her and her family fund as many treatments needed of Keytruda to treat her cancer which is not funded by Pharmac.
All money will be spent to help pay for the unfunded drug Keytruda for the first and subsequent years of treatment.
Sad news 3 June 2019
I am so sorry to let you all know that Mel passed away peacefully and surrounded by friends and family on Friday 31 May.
Unfortunately the Keytruda stopped working earlier this year and she went downhill fast.
She was so humbled and thankful to all of you for your generous donations that enabled her to get those extra precious months of quality time with her boys.
