Help Ollie to listen and speak like his hearing peers.
Waikato
Our little boy Ollie failed the newborn hearing screening test and after 4 months of audiology testing was diagnosed with Profound Right Unilateral Hearing Loss. This means he is deaf in his right ear.
Currently, the cause of Ollie's hearing loss is uncertain and often the cause is never found. Ollie is undergoing regular audiology testing on his left ear. These assessments will be ongoing as his good hearing ear may decline. Right now these tests have come back inconclusive, this is a worry for us as this might mean the hearing in his good ear may have already started to deteriorate.
To help Ollie develop at the same rate as a typical hearing child we need to get him a Cochlear Implant.
Ollie is the happiest little boy who has the most infectious smile. He is very social and loves to be around people, especially his big brother. Getting the Cochlear Implant for Ollie will help him to hear sounds such as birds more clearly. The Implant will help him be able to determine where sounds are coming from and be more involved in conversations with his friends and teachers in a busy classroom.
Unfortunately, Cochlear Implants aren't funded for single sided deafness. We will be forever grateful for any donations to help our little boy listen and speak like his hearing peers. So thank you for choosing us to donate to.
Any money raised will go towards the cochlear implant device, surgery and habilitation costs to teach Ollie's Right ear how to listen and interpret sound.
