We are raising money to buy our Big Hoot owl, GOWLdi, at the end-of-May auction so he can have a permanent home in Onehunga town centre.
Auckland
The Haier Big Hoot is a city-wide public art trail celebrating the work of artists, communities, children and young people and is running between 3 March - 6 May 2018. As part of this Onehunga Business Association has been an owl sponsor and has been home to GOWLdi the Fish Owl since 3 March 2018. On 6 May GOWLdi is removed from Onehunga in preparation for the Big Hoot art fundraising auction on 29 May. The Big Hoot is being run by the Child Cancer Foundation. Everyone has fallen in love with our owl and we think it fits in perfectly in the Onehunga town centre so we want to try and raise money to help the Onehunga Business Association buy GOWLdi at the auction and have him returned home.
We understand that GOWLdi is in hot demand so the more money we raise the higher the chance we have of keeping our owl. The Onehunga Business Association has set some money aside for this purchase but as this is an auction we are not sure how much GOWLdi will sell for and we do not want to miss buying him.
The best thing about this is that if we are successful then all money raised from the campaign to buy back GOWLdi at auction will go to the Child Cancer Foundation – a great cause.
We do have a contingency plan if we're unsuccessful at purchasing GOWLdi and that is to use the money to commission another piece of public art from Rachel Silver, GOWLdi's creator. This likely means that no money will be donated to the Child Cancer Foundation and is our worst case scenario.
The money will be used to try and purchase GOWLdi at the Haier Big Hoot auction on 29 May 2018.
If we miss out on buying him then we will use the money to buy another piece of public art for Onehunga Mall.
