Richard is currently trying to say goodbye to a very unwelcome house guest – Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. He needs your help.

Auckland

Dear Friends,

As many of you already know I’m currently trying to say goodbye to a very unwelcome house guest – Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. Unfortunately, it’s being rather persistent and eating me out of house and home. It’s become quite a costly exercise, which is why I need your help.

I’m currently embarking on a 5 month chemo treatment, which hits me for six every three weeks. It’s no walk in the park and despite my best efforts to keep working I’ve had to admit defeat. This has left somewhat of a financial hole as I also supplement my treatment with healthy living and natural supplements.

As hard as it is to have to do, I’m passing round the hat and hoping that you can help an old friend with the fight of his life.

Any contributions will go towards my utility bills, groceries and immune system medication.

Harriet Cox's involvement (page creator)

My brothers and I have set up this page to help our dad financially through his chemo and ongoing treatment for stage 4 prostate cancer.

He is unable to work during this time, and anything raised will go towards helping with day to day living such as groceries and home help, as well as additional natural supplements that work with the chemo in reducing cancer-related symptoms and also alleviate the treatment side effects.

Use of funds

Any contributions will go towards utility bills, groceries and immune system medication. As much as we don't want to think about if things don't go to plan, the kids will donate any surplus to The Movember Foundation

Greetings from Richard!   29 November 2019

GREETINGS!

Well I’ve recently had my first-year anniversary…that was finding out I had prostate cancer. As fortune would have it, the PCA was Stage 4 and right at top end of deep shit scale!

As I say, I was fortunate that treatment started immediately, and the ensuing 6 months of Chemo helped suppress the beast for a while.

I say, ‘helped’, as I quickly adopted an Integrative Medicinal approach to my treatment - using conventional and herbal medicines, as well as changes to diet and a wellness programme to suit. The result was that during this time my PSA marker dropped from 534 to 7! Which was extraordinary.

During this time, with the aid of my son’s devoted and tenacious research, I learnt a tremendous amount about cancer, prostate cancer and the well-being protocols I needed to adopt. I continue to adapt the protocols as new evidence and credible advice is sought.

I also learnt that this cancering journey is a full-time job, and I certainly haven’t been idle!

Through acceptance, resolve and humour, I’ve been able to garner personal strength in continuing this cancering journey to wherever it leads me.

My success, with results to date, have been due to adopting an Integrative Medical approach to my cancering – with my stage of cancer, my conventional oncology is to refer to this as ‘Watchfully Waiting’…. Well, Bugger That! One Life, One Shot!

Integrative medicine added several important clinicians to my team. Resulting in the protocols I now have introduced include; conventional, herbal medicinal, diet changes, wellness programme and now the addition of conventional ‘re-purposed’ drugs – medically-proven to be cancer growth inhibitors.

This programme has not been cheap and costs just over $500/week –which I am unable to be get subsidised.

.

My ‘lifetime’ pursuit could not be possible without the direct care and support of my children and close family and friends (and puppy!).

But also, what has been incredibly gratifying, and continues to fill me with great arohanui, has been the response to my financial needs, great and small, old friends and new, strangers some and acquaintances met but briefly.

THANK YOU ALL and I really need your continued financial support, which helps significantly towards extending my cancering journey. I will ‘tame the Beast!’

Thank you with all my heart.

Richard
