My girl Rosie is seriously ill and my Vet is still trying to figure out what is wrong. I just want my princess to get well!
Nationwide
Rosie is my 18 month old rescue dog, she has had a hard start to life prior to finding a loving home with me, followed by spending 5 months waiting for a forever home at the Hu Ha rescue shelter on the Kapiti coast near Wellington.
After being adopted, Rosie has enjoyed 3 awesome months running and playing with her new family. Rosie now has two new big sister's, Tess and Betsy who are both 9, as well as her 4 year old big brother Paddy, who has been by Rosie's side since she was a puppy. Rosie has a massive loving and cheeky personality, bringing so much life and love to the family household.
Unfortunately, Rosie wasn’t quite herself Thursday evening and was taken to the vet clinic Friday morning. Overnight she had developed a temperature of 44.5®C, which is well above the normal 38.5®C and in danger of seizures and organ failure.
Rosie was put on an intravenous drip to administer fluids, the vets needed to get her temperature down enough for sedation so tests could be done to find out what was wrong with her. She has had x-rays, an ultra-sound, bloods taken and an endoscope down her throat. It was found that Rosie had 3 cracked teeth from an old injury that had become septic. The teeth were removed and Rosie was given antibiotics with pain medication; she was sent home with the IV line still in and a follow up check made for Saturday morning.
Unfortunately her temperature was back up to 42.1®C and she was admitted to the clinic again. As her temperature was not stabilising, she was transferred to the after hours clinic for more fluids and full care with observations over the rest of the weekend.
It is Sunday now, and Rosie has been given a super antibiotic to try to get her temperature down further, as well as a cooling pad to lie on and a fan. As the treatments haven’t worked so far the vets are thinking that she has meningitis, but still have no idea what they are dealing with. The next step is for Rosie to be sedated again and have a specialised team do a spinal tap surgery on Monday, which will confirm whether it is meningitis, and the type it is, to start a treatment plan for her.
Rosie is a lovely energetic little girl with a wonderful temperament. Everyone she comes in contact with adore her, even the staff and volunteers at Hu Ha rescue were pleased to see her go to a forever home, but miss her dearly. She deserves the best chance to have a happy full life with her two new sisters and big brother Paddy. We all love Rosie so much and just want her to get better and come home. The house is not the same without her and we miss her so much it hurts. Anything you could spare to help with her veterinary costs, would be really appreciated, and if there are any surplus funds, they will be donated to the Hornby veterinary clinic to help other people struggling with their veterinary bills.
Xrays, Scans, Medical assistance, Biopsy, Spinal tap, Medication, 24 hour round the clock care, Vet bills. Anything which concerns Rosie's Medical attention, and any left over funds will be donated to the Hornby Veterinary Clinic.
