Seeking assistance with vet costs for my Mum’s companion dog, since Dad passed away.
Canterbury
Last year my Dad passed away five days before his 65th birthday, leaving my Mum and their little black doggo, Jasper to keep each other company. Jasper is a poo-chin - that is, a Poodle, Japanese Chin cross.
Jasper is a great wee friend to Mum and acts as her eyes and ears on the ground (quite low to the ground in his case), announcing visitors and protecting Mum on their regular short walks.
He was deeply affected by Dads passing, and together they hold on.
Mum recently found a lump on Jaspers leg, and the vet confirmed it to be a sarcoma (cancer). In order to ensure he remains well, it needs to be excised immediately. Mum is not however in a position to cover the costs of the treatment and post-surgical care.
We are hoping to raise $1900, which should (unless further disasters unfold) cover the costs of the pre-surgery blood-work, a chest x-ray (to ensure the cancer has not spread into his lungs), and a further test (the name of which I didnt catch) to ensure that the surgery has the best chance of success, the surgery itself, post-care and prescriptions, and transport to and from the vet, as my Mum cannot drive.
Mum agreed to let me try this as a last resort, as she believes the platform is meant for people in more need than her, however I know how much Jasper means to her, and how much he has helped her through the grieving process. I also know that Mum will need to go into debt to pay for the vet bills as she doesnt have the means to fund this otherwise.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I’m Sue’s daughter. My Dad passed away in late 2017 and Mum has only a wee dog (Jasper) for companionship. As Mum is hard of hearing, Jasper has a role to play in announcing visitors and keeping Mum company since Dad died.
Jasper has now been diagnosed with an aggressive sarcoma (cancer) on his leg, and requires immediate surgery to remove it. We are looking for support to assist with medical treatments for Jasper as Mum is not in a financial position to be able to afford the tests let alone the surgery, and is looking to have to borrow money to make this happen.
I am looking to raise $1900 which will cover the cost of the surgery, the blood work, chest x-ray and a further test to determine if the cancer has spread, as well as the cost of transport to and from the vet and after care prescriptions, as Mum cannot drive and relies on others for transport.
Pre-surgery blood work (liver, kidney function)
Chest x-ray
Additional tests required to determine if the surgery is likely to be a success
Surgery
Post Surgical Care (dressings, checkups)
Prescriptions
Travel to/from vet
Any Surplus to be donated to SPCA

Jasper's future is looking bright. Surgery has been a success with no sign of cancer remaining and he has got his bounce back.
It looks like the cancer was caught really early before it could spread.
Here he is chilling out after the first real walk in a while. Thank you so much to all of you for your kind words of support. And of course the financial support is easing the burden of 'the biggy', which we hope won't happen to our fur baby.
