Help save the Lakes District Museum! Seismic strengthening and restoration project
Otago
The Lakes District Museum & Gallery in Arrowtown has been our district's museum for over 72 years, curating, exhibiting, storing and archiving the region's treasures and stories since 1948.
The museum has also led many campaigns to protect and save a number of our district's heritage buildings.
We have welcomed generations of students through our education programmes, and our art gallery has hosted over 150 exhibitions since this was established in 1992.
A registered charity, we are self-funding through admissions, retail sales, grants and bequests.
Many very generous volunteers and locals have contributed to the success of the museum over its 72 years of operation.
We are well on the way with our building project thanks to the generosity of individual local donors, QLDC, MBIE and the Central Lakes Trust.
Our fundraising efforts now are for the design and construction of the displays that will fill the building. We are working hard to make sure that we tell our stories in a way that is engaging, educational and fun!
Every dollar counts and we are grateful for any donations.
Thank you!
The Lakes District Museum & Gallery has been protecting and preserving our stories for over 72 years.
Our 1875 BNZ building and stables require earthquake strengthening and we need to raise a daunting amount of money to avoid closure.
Funds raised will be spent on essential seismic strengthening, restoration and reinstating museum displays.
Museum display fundraiser 4 March 2021
We are thrilled that our seismic strengthening building work is well under way and making great progress.
The BNZ building has been gutted and the exciting work of redesigning our displays has started.
We are now fundraising specifically for these displays and are full of ideas about how we want to tell our stories once the building work is completed.
Every dollar we raise helps us with the design and construction of engaging, educational and fun exhibits to fill the museum.
Thank you so much for your donation Jenny.
Thank you! We love hearing that people love our museum - we love it too!
