Please help us to secure a home - with a permanent base we can continue to grow and help unwanted cats & kittens.

Wellington

After unexpectedly taking over FeralNation in July 2017, I planned to grow the organisation slowly, as I'd recently begun a business so my priority needed to lie there. My thoughts were if I could help one cat a month that'd be a big help but also would make a huge difference to that cat. In the first 5 months of 2018 FeralNation desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, and found homes for 86 kittens and cats - slightly more than the one per month!

I rent my home. Two years ago my landlords changed my lease to say "cats by arrangement" and the arrangement was we didn't discuss cats. They'd come round for the annual inspection and all would look "normal" - I'm incredibly grateful to have landlords who visit so infrequently - although this is probably due to the fact I've lived here for 6 years. This meant I could take over FeralNation with no worries - it's largely foster-based so I don't generally have many extras at my house - although if it's adoption time, that's a different story.

In early August 2018 my landlords dropped the bombshell they were selling my home! They'd upgraded their apartment to a house and thus needed the funds. This brought on all sorts of panic - few rentals in Wellington allow pets, if they do allow pets it's maximum 2 (I have 4 cats), and most rentals have quarterly inspections - eek!!

I desperately want to grow FeralNation as there's so many cats who need our help but I know that to do this I need a permanent base - ie I need to buy a house. The reason I want to buy the house I currently rent is I feel safe here, I'm surrounded by cat lovers, and there's room for growth. Once I own a home I can register FeralNation as a registered charity - this will provide us with so many more opportunities.

I took over FeralNation in July 2017 - all funds raised go into FeralNation which helps the unwanted cats and kittens that we take into our care.

Use of funds

Funds will be used to for me to buy a house, we need assistance to purchase the property currently occupied by FeralNation HQ. Funds will be used to ensure we can afford the purchase, excess funds will be used to convert spaces to make them more "feral cat" friendly.

Latest news  2 September 2018

Thanks to a wonderful person who has kindly offered to loan me some money, I can now confirm I have signed a conditional Sales & Purchase Agreement - woo hoo!!!!!!

Instead of needing to raise $20,000 by end of September I now need to raise just $5,000 - and thanks to every wonderful person who has donated in some form or another, the total already raised is $2,767.30 <3 The $15,000 a person has offered to loan to me is interest free, with the condition I pay it back by end of 2018. Too easy! Hopefully. If you all keep supporting us :)

Securing this house means FeralNation never need be at risk - we can continue to help many cats and kittens in the Wellington region. Over the coming weeks and months we'll have lots of stuff to sell, many raffles, and lots of other fundraising initiatives.
