The kaitiaki of Ihumātao's power has been cut. Help us raise funds to sustain a watchful presence on the land.

Auckland

The kaitiaki of Ihumātao are now living without electricity.

For more than four years, Save Our Unique Landscape (SOUL) has been campaigning to stop a commercial housing development from going ahead on land that is part of a rare cultural heritage landscape at Ihumātao.

In 1863 this land was confiscated under the New Zealand Settlements Act ahead of the Crown's invasion of the Waikato. Descendants of the settler family granted the land in 1863 sold it to Fletcher Building Ltd in 2016. This transnational corporation is planning to build 480 high-cost houses on the land for profit. After exhausting all legal avenues to stop this inappropriate development, SOUL is keeping a watchful presence on the land.

To support the kaitiaki, we want to help the campaign needs. Every dollar helps to sustain a watchful presence on the land and stop this development!
