Help the most vulnerable people of Uttarakhand in wake of Covid-19 pandemic

Second wave of Covid-19 is having a big impact on well-being and livelihood of people in Uttarakhand. On one hand people in Rural Uttarakhand are losing their near ones and on the other hand bread earners of the rural households are turning jobless. Uttarakhand’s rural economy largely depends on the workforce deployed in metro cities of India and due to lock down situation they have been forced to return to their native villages without jobs.

In Uttarakhand till date more than 100,000 bread earners have returned to their native village after losing their jobs during second wave of Covid-19. This has created a community of jobless and this already deprived community is in verge of being malnourished.

Rachnatmak Mahila Manch is a community-based institution working in Almora and Pauri Garhwal districts. They are strongly united to combat the challenges that marginalized family are facing in their communities due to the recent challenges.

Rachnatmak Mahila Manch will be supported by the Shramyog community members to run a food ration distribution drive for the underprivileged families in the Almora and Pauri Garhwal districts.

Shramyog (http://www.shramyog.org/ or https://www.facebook.com/shramyog ) is a non-profit research and development organization registered in New Delhi under the Societies Registration Act of India (1860). In the year 2011, Shramyog was set up with a vision to establish an oppression free society, where environment sensitive and scientific conscious people will live in healthy ecosystem with dignity and harmony. Shram-people’s republic campaign is a flagship program of Shramyog to reduce poverty and hunger. Shramyog believes that weak social capital and lack of livelihoods opportunities are root cause of poverty and hunger.
