I want to be a farm adviser. Please help me fundraise to get to Outward Bound so I will be accepted for a farm training course in 2020.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Going to Outward Bound will help me gain the personal development and leadership skills I need to be accepted for a residential farm training course in 2020.
I really want to gain practical outdoor skills before later heading away to university to complete a BAg degree. We don't have any farmers in our family, so I currently work for a local farmer outside of school, and I have also worked as an assistant beekeeper and kept my own hive.
I was enrolled to go to Taratahi in the Wairarapa this year for a sheep and beef course, but Taratahi has gone into liquidation and my course has been cancelled. I'm trying to look on this as an opportunity - and this is why I've decided to return to school this year to complete Year 13, and also to go to Outward Bound.
One of the main pieces of feedback I have received is that I need to get leadership experience to improve my chances of being accepted for another farm training course. I missed out on getting a leadership position at school this year because I had been planning to go to Taratahi, and so I have instead enrolled at Outward Bound to learn these skills.
Apart from gaining leadership skills and learning to challenge myself more, the part of the Outward Bound course that I'm most looking forward to is the two-night solo camping challenge!
My fundraising so far includes my part-time job with the local farmer, this Givealittle page, and writing letters to request support from places like the Freemasons. I have also written to the organisations that I'd applied for support from to attend Taratahi.
Thanks so much for considering helping me with my fundraising, and for any support you are able to give.
Thor is my 17 year old son and he is fundraising to cover the $4300 course fee for a Mind Body Soul course he has enrolled in at Outward Bound in April 2019. Thor has wanted to be a farmer or farm adviser for the past four years. He had been accepted for a sheep and beef course at Taratahi in the Wairarapa starting in January 2019, but Taratahi has since gone into liquidation and the course has been cancelled. Thor is now returning to Whanganui High School to complete Y13, and he hopes that by going to Outward Bound he will gain invaluable leadership skills and also improve his chances of being accepted to attend a residential sheep and beef training course in 2020. Thanks so much for any support you are able to give.
All funds raised will go towards Thor's Outward Bound Mind Body Soul course fee and travel costs. Anything extra that is donated will be passed on to Outward Bound to support others to attend in future.
