Help to cover some cost incurred as a result of Mr Sharif’s hospitalisation in NZ and ongoing care for when he returns to Malaysia.
Auckland
Mr Sharif came to NZ on a Islamic missionary trip with his wife and 4 others on the 28th June 2018. They intended to stay from July until August 2018.
Unfortunately Mr Sharif fall sick shortly after his arrival into NZ. He was admitted at the Middlemore Hospital ED on the 4th July 2018 and currently being treated as a stroke patient.
A lot of tests has been done and it appears that Mr Sharif case is severely complicated by his respiratory condition.
Mr Sharif has no family in NZ, he is a non NZ resident. Currently his wife Mrs Sofiah is staying with him at the hospital. Mr Sharif’s family is currently in discussion with the hospital staff about his ongoing care as well as with the travel insurance to see if they will provide cover for him. As you can imagine this process is rather tedious and takes time and involves several people and paperworks, meantime the family is still in limbo and awaiting respond from the insurance company whilst the bills is increasing everyday.
Mr Sharif’s family intend to bring him home to Malaysia to continue the ongoing treatment as soon as the stroke medical professionals at the Middlemore hospital are able to discharge him. Mr Sharif will likely needing special assistance to transport him home too.
Can we all please make a contribution no matter how small to help ease the burden to the family to pay the hospitalisation bills and to take Mr Sharif home as soon as he is able to. I am sure any contributions will count and will be greatly appreciated by the family.
Thank you very much for your generosity

Raising funds on behalf of Mr Sharif’s family in Malaysia.
Mr Sharif is my friend’s father who came to NZ on missionary and fall ill not long after. He is currently at Middlemore hospital receiving treatment.
We do not know if his insurance will cover his fees at this stage the hospital bills are mounting and they have no family or means to pay for these as they are non NZ resident.
On top of the bills they also have daily expenses for Mr Sharif’s wife to go and back to the hospital, food, clothing all the general expenses.
The family plan to bring Mr Sharif home to Malaysia as soon as he is able to this needs a lot of money as it will require special equipment and assistant.
Update: 17/7/18 As the insurance will now provide cover for a limited medical expenses whilst Mr Sharif is receiving care in NZ, the support will cease as soon as Mr Sharif reach his home country, the funds will be needed for an ongoing medical and rehabilitation care post stroke in Malaysia. Mr Sharif has no private medical insurance in Malaysia and is a senior citizen with no income.
To cover hospital bills and ongoing cost until he gets home
To cover general expenses for Mrs Sofiah whilst in NZ
To pay for bills to take Mr Sharif home
Mrs Sofia has passed away 30 July 2018
Hi All
My heart is sore for this family. Unfortunately Mrs Sofea has passed away yesterday on the 29th July 2018, around 4-5pm Malaysian time as advised by his son to me yesterday.
Mr Sharif was discharged from the Middlemore hospital and was taken straight to the airport on the 20th July and flew by Qantas heading to Malaysia via Singapore. On the plane at 41000 feet Mr Sharif experienced shortness of breath and he has become ill. Lucky for the airlines to have a suitable oxygen tank that lasted him for 2 hours and the doctors passenger coincidently on the same plane that day. Mr Sharif was sent to the emergency department on a critical condition and later that morning was admitted at the Changi Hospital for continuous treatment. He was finally discharged out again on Thursday the 26th July 2018 and sent to Malaysia’s hospital in Selangor by an ambulance.
Note that Mrs Sofia left Auckland a day earlier on the 19th July 2018. It must has been a huge pressure for her dealing with her husband’s situation and the whole ordeal dealing with the insurance as they further facing issues whilst Mr Sharif was in Singapore.
Mr Sharif and Mrs Sofea was finally reunited in Malaysia but sadly Mrs Sofea has passed away on the 29th July at emergency department Serdang Hospital in Selangor just 2 days after Mr Sharif arrived back and currently being treated at the hospital.
This is a very sad outcome for the whole family and to me personally. Mrs Sofea’s funeral will be held on the 30th July 2018 at 10 am Malaysian time.
The family sent me a thank you message to be passed on to all of you for the generosity, support and assistant to their father and mother whilst they were in Auckland and Singapore. Can we please take a minute of silent and send prayers to Mrs Sofea. May her soul Rest In Peace.
Rose
