Help us deliver fun activites to care facilities

Runner-up in the 2018 Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards, The Therapy Box is registered charity that operates New Zealand’s first and only online activity library for adults in residential care. In New Zealand, aged and other care facilities have activities run by a trained specialist, known as a Diversional Therapist.

The Therapy Box activity library enables therapists to hire activities for their facility, equipping them with the resources to run varied and interesting programs for their residents.

Due to COVID-19, we are having to replace many components and packaging in our activity boxes because they are unable to be disinfected to a high standard. This is preventing us from reopening. We have over 60 activity boxes available; the majority of them need at least 1 component replacing, and in some cases we are having to replace entire activities.

One of the activities that needs replacement parts is a box that is very popular for the Melbourne Cup!

Our lovely wooden horses and their woolly manes are unable to be fully disinfected without damaging them. We have bought some great looking plastic horses that are able to be fully disinfected. The original horses were hand made by our volunteers many years ago; we will be sad to see them go.

Replacing parts can be expensive; a set of 12 quality plastic horses cost $169.48. We are also updating, replacing and reprinting other components in the activity box.
