Due to a devastating burglary to our yard over the Christmas period, we are forced to close our business down.
Canterbury
A personal message to all family, friends and supporters of Park Homes NZ Ltd.
We trust you had a fruitful Christmas and New Year, and wish you all a prosperous and joyful year ahead, the start of a new decade :-)
Paul and Pascale wish to inform you of an incident that happened during our 5 days of absence over the Christmas period.
Our building yard was broken into and almost all of the building materials and appliances for several homes and all of our tools and equipment, including our specialist SIPs cutting and building tools, were stolen. So far there are no leads on the criminals who carried out this act and it is unlikely that we will see any of those items again.
Unfortunately, whilst we do have some insurance for losses due to burglary, there are always limits to what can be recovered, especially as these thefts were from our storage containers. This is the fourth burglary we have suffered in as many years, and typically we have used our personal savings to bridge the gap and make up the losses ourselves, however, in this case the sheer quantity of items stolen and the high cost to us and our customers, has meant that this event is too substantial for Paul and I to cover and sadly recovery is beyond our capabilities at this time.
It is, therefore, with a heavy heart that we inform you all that we have decided to close down the business for an indefinite period. There are eight families who have been adversely affected by this incident, including the direct livelihoods of five staff members, and the customers whose homes we were still in the midst of building or were due to commence building this year. Not to mention the many enquiries we have or people at design stage, who could have potentially built with us in future. We are going to do our best to ease the losses to our customers and are committed to finishing the homes that are still underway, even if this means building them for free ourselves and selling anything the business has left to sell, so that those families can enjoy the home that we all had planned together and that was supposed to be a new start for them.
To this end, we have set up this give-a-little page to support the completion of these homes. Any donations received via this page will go directly towards the repurchase of their materials and appliances to ensure they receive nothing less than what they were entitled to receive before being robbed. With your help, we are hoping to generate enough to cover the bare minimum costs of completing these homes and anything received over and above will go directly to all those affected by the losses and the closing down of the business. It is anticipated that these homes will be finished over the next couple of months.
For anyone who is interested in the last of our tiny homes, we have one ready-made model that remains and is up for sale. It comes furnished, warranted and registered. Please contact Pascale on 021 054 5957 for more information.
Paul and I want you all to know that we have absolutely loved serving you these past five years. We have loved pushing the boundaries and pioneering new ways of building, with innovation, comfort, energy efficiency and true affordability. We have loved creating high efficiency tiny houses and modular houses that have served as first homes, retirement homes and dream homes for Kiwis. We hope that New Zealand embraces the smaller footprint homes as a way forward for the housing market, and that large housing companies can appreciate that there are other ways to build that are not encroaching upon their business or power within the industry, but that are instead affording many New Zealanders a first step into living in a healthy, comfortable home without a huge mortgage or high running costs. Small and tiny homes are a real way to relieve this country from the housing crisis that only grows more dire with the passage of time. Paul and I believe in this country and we believe that there is a way to allow all Kiwis to own a home of their own, if we embrace all manners of housing, whether this be a tiny house, a small transportable house, or a traditional house as is the norm. All homes are valid and all people should be able to own a safe space to raise their families. That was the vision of Park Homes and we are so grateful to every single person who has supported this vision with us over the last five years.
We extend the biggest, heartfelt thank you to our staff past and present, most specifically, Antje, Dan and Gary. Without you guys, we wouldn’t have been able to do what we do so well and you’ve all become like family to us. We are also incredibly grateful to our customers. We have loved giving you a piece of ourselves and co-creating a home that you can be proud of. Despite the many challenges of starting a business with no financial backing other than our life savings, we can say with hands on our hearts and our heads held high, that we are proud of Park Homes and we are blessed to have been able to experience these years of learning, growth and service alongside a great team.
We’ll remember only the good times and want to say a huge thank you for your love and support over the years.
Until the next adventure,
Pascale, Paul and baby Kye

Any funds raised will be put towards the repurchase of lost materials, appliances, furnishings and tools that were not covered by our insurance. Any funds over and above what is required will go directly to those affected by the shut down of the business.
Updates on the builds! 14 February 2020
Hello friends,
We wanted to just send you a quick update to share how your generous donations have helped us progress since our announcement.
This week saw us finish off a 90m2 transportable house, for which we were able to replace all the stolen appliances (nearly $10,000 worth for this particular project) with what we received from the insurers, in combination with your donations. The couple were very pleased to have their home delivered to them, complete and with only 2 weeks' delay due to the burglaries. Fantastic!
We began on another tiny house this week, which will head to Dunedin once complete. One of the other two owners/clients adversely affected by the thefts has also already been partially reimbursed for stolen items, and we hope to raise even more funds and/or sell some company plant during the close down to compensate them entirely.
The feedback and support offered by friends and strangers alike has been incredible. We cannot thank you all enough and are so grateful to all who've stood by us during this crazy time.
Paul is already brainstorming new ideas for starting afresh and we hope to be able to create something wonderful out of this experience.
Thank you again for your kindness and for contributing to our cause.
With warmest regards,
Pascale, Paul and the Park Homes family.
