We’re racing the Yukon1000 to help sponsor a Northland teen’s life-changing journey to attend Outward Bound.
Whangarei, Northland
We’re Ryan and Calvin, two paddlers from Whangārei, Aotearoa, taking on the Yukon1000, the world’s longest paddle race: 1,600km through the remote wilderness of Canada and Alaska. We’ve spent the last 10 months training hard for this moment, driven by a shared philosophy: doing hard things builds strong people. But we’re not just doing this for ourselves. We want this challenge to open a door for someone else.
We're raising funds to sponsor a Northland teenager who otherwise wouldn’t have the financial means to attend Outward Bound, a life-changing programme that builds confidence, leadership, and resilience through outdoor adventure.
We were both fortunate to be brought up in the outdoors and encouraged to take on challenges, support that shaped our lives and ultimately led us to this incredible adventure. But we know not every young person gets those kinds of opportunities. So we’re using this race to help create one.
Our goal: Raise enough to fully fund a young Northlander’s journey to Anakiwa to complete Outward Bound. Every dollar raised will go towards course fees, travel, and some gear.
Thanks for backing us and backing a future Northland legend.
