Help us stay close to our baby boy in the NICU

Help support our family while our baby boy, born prematurely at 26 weeks, fights to grow stronger in the NICU

Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui

Our little boy arrived far too soon — born at just 26 weeks. He’s tiny, fragile, and incredibly brave. Every day in NICU, he’s fighting hard to grow stronger, and we’re so proud of the progress he’s making. We are currently in Queen Mary Hospital in Dunedin with the hopes of returning home to Palmerston North as soon as he’s fit enough to travel by air.

Because he was born so early, our baby will need to stay in the NICU until around his original due date in February. Until then, he’ll continue receiving round-the-clock care from the amazing nurses in NICU.

These past weeks have been a huge struggle for us and our boys. Sarah had a week long hospital stay in Wellington before being transferred to Dunedin Hospital after bleeding out. Between travel costs, meals, and time away from work, the financial strain has become really tough on our little family. We’re doing our best to stay positive and focus on what matters most: being there for our baby and for Sarah.

We’ve created this Givealittle page to help with the ongoing weekly costs while our baby remains in intensive care. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a real difference — helping us cover travel, food, and basic living expenses so we can keep showing up for him every single day.

Your kindness and support mean the world to us. It gives us a sense of relief, and the breathing room we need to stay present with our boy as he continues his fight to grow, heal, and come home. 💙

Use of funds

Funds will help cover our weekly bills, travel to and from the hospital, food costs, and accommodation while we’re displaced — especially through the holiday season as we stay close to baby and while Sarah recovers from an emergency C-section.

Day 20  3 December 2025

Day 20 - Dunedin NICU

The last few days baby has been very unsettled, he’s been having very deep bradys (heart rate dropping from 170s to 30-40), followed by a drop in respiratory rate and then a drop in O2 saturation. Some days having around 30 events and most needing intervention and a couple needing to be given manual breaths with a neo-puff (tiny baby resuscitation machine). The last 24 hours have been much better. Baby has been self reverting the events and they have become less frequent. We are still hoping for a transfer, fingers crossed it happens next week. We have been away from home now for over a month and it’s getting harder and harder day by day.
