K9MD will train dogs for the non invasive early detection of cancers and other diseases

Nationwide

Frieda, K9MD’s eighteen-month old German shepherd’s first job is to detect prostate cancer in urine. In New Zealand more than 3,000 men are diagnosed annually and 600 men die every year, that’s over 11 men every single week that die from prostate cancer. Early detection is crucial to the success of treatment and patient outcome.

Using a dog’s amazing sense of smell to detect prostate cancer in urine samples has been proven overseas to be more accurate and less invasive than current methods of testing. Frieda comes from a high quality, proven working dog line. She is a loveable, feisty girl with boundless energy and a ready keenness to work. We need your help to ensure Frieda is always healthy and happy and ready to work in her mission to help save lives. We need to provide her with a spacious and safe enclosure; quality food; regular vet checks and enrichment equipment for her relaxation time. Once Frieda has become a fully operational K9 Medical Detection dog and is validated for prostate cancer detection she will commence training to detect ovarian cancer. Together we can make a difference.
