Please assist Jerry Hollis and his family through this journey.
Auckland
Two weeks ago our darling father Jerry Hollis was suddenly diagnosed with Terminal Cancer. This aggressive pancreatic and prostate cancer has now spread throughout his vital organs. Doctors have said he will be leaving us soon.
We love our dad. Finding out about his sudden fight against cancer has come as a shock to all of us, as he was diagnosed only a few weeks ago. We are taking advantage of these last moments and are content that he has lead a fulfilling life. He is at peace and ready to begin his next journey.
My parents have lived a very simple life, always giving whenever they could. As children growing up we were taught that "there are always people less fortunate than ourselves". Even when we had nothing our parents would always find ways to help people in need. True to their nature, we have learnt that they have not put anything aside for themselves to assist them in moments like these.
Never ones to indulge in life's materials, our parents have always believed that "the Lord would provide". And He, the Lord, has provided for all of us throughout our lives. Now we are asking God for one last blessing for our father, through the people we love, that dad may have the send off he deserves. Not one of gold, silver and precious silks, or fine-twined linen, but a simple, beautiful one, like the way he has lived his life.
We would like to thank all those who have played a part in dads life. To his family both those who adopted him as a child and those who welcomed him back as an adult. We are grateful to his forebearers who are waiting to welcome him on the other side, who have helped nurture him into the man he is, a great man, true to his convictions. We appreciate all the Church friends dad has made throughout the years in Invercargill, Claudelands Ward, Camp Hill, Redcliffe and Mango Hill Wards and all those he served with throughout his life in the service of our God. Thank you to all our whanau and friends dad has made over the years. We appreciate the many faces that have visited with our dad here in the hospital. We are grateful for the hospital staff who have worked tirelessly to ease his pain and keep him comfortable. A special thanks for the prayers and kind thoughts offered on our behalf. We have felt your love.
Funds would primarily help assist funeral related costs, including the use of the Marae to house and feed family and visitors. Where possible, funds would also assist in travel expenses for the immediate family.
