Tim, my husband, has Mesothelioma - a cancer caused by asbestos exposure. He's 34 years old, and we have a daughter who is only 6 years old.
Auckland
We were devastated when Tim was admitted to hospital in October 2016 with chest and gut pains.
A CT biopsy showed cancerous cells present, and a further surgical biopsy in early January, this year, gave us the diagnosis of Malignant Mesothelioma.
Tim is unable to work and support us any longer, and will be having chemotherapy treatment just as soon as ACC decide if they are going to fund the unfunded portion of the treatment.
We have a 6 year old daughter, and no little girl should have to grow up without her Daddy. We have been investigating what trial drugs are available, looking into getting a second opinion, and seeing what is out there.
In the meantime, the bills don't just stop coming. Unfortunately my part time work will not cover our living expenses, not to mention extra travel costs, parking, etc and the time off needed to care for Tim once treatment starts. And due to the nature of my work I will not see another paycheck until March.
As you can imagine this is a nightmare for our family, and we would not normally ask for help, but until we know whether ACC are going to help we are in financial limbo and creeping into debt.
Living expenses, travel costs, any additional medical costs,
Treatment starting next week 17 February 2017
ACC have accepted the claim for treatment, chemo starts Tuesday. Next step is for financial support. I have taken a step away from work for a while to be with my family at this difficult time.
A huge thank you to everyone for all your support and help through this horrible time, we truly appreciate any help we can get.
