We started bringing people together in Fairlie through group exercise to lift the morale of our Community. To show people how simple and easy it is to feel good. They turn up for an hour, do what they’re told/instructed to do and leave feeling better than they started. Compound that over weeks, months or years and we have some amazing stories of increased confidence, improved health parameters, stronger social connections and a second place for people to call home.

What drives me to keep doing this is my own personal experiences. I lost my eldest brother to depression and my father to cancer both before their time. Knowing what I know now I would’ve had a greater influence on their day to day environment to prevent those events happening. I understand everything happens for a reason. CrossFit H-Squad IS my reason. How do I know it’s the reason? My father gave me a message through a visit with a medium a year after he passed when I was considering starting a CrossFit Gym; “You have the credentials, if you start, people will follow”. It has been behind me through every difficult decision I have made. My father's belief in me to help others is the driving force behind everything I do.

So what’s the deal? Well, we moved from our patio in June 2016 because it got cold. Have you tried holding on to steel in -5 degrees? It’s not much fun! It makes it tough to motivate anyone other than the hardened warrior or socialite who likes to talk about a challenge. We found a shed on a piece of land, bought it and trained there with the intention to make it awesome in the preceding years. Four years later it is awesome. We have enough equipment to provide a class of 10 a fun filled and challenging daily experience and our members love it. What we don't have yet is the homely part. The toilet, shower, kitchen, appointment room, bbq area and social space. It’ll mean the kids will have a warm area to draw and play while mum is exercising, the worker can shower here after class on their way to work, members can wait in the warm before the winter class and we can have more social gatherings to keep the Community vibe strong.

Where are we in the pipeline? We have plans of what we want to achieve. We have costings of what it will cost to complete the 100 square metre renovation. Now, we just need some funding to be able to piece it all together. With current member numbers and possibly future member numbers it may not ever be viable for us to personally borrow to create this space in this small Community (we went through that process pre-COVID). But, that isn’t going to stop us from working towards our goal of creating a unique, confidence building environment for our local Community. Mental and physical health is that important to me that I will find a way to make it happen.

So, here I am, looking for donations to help fund small or large aspects of our project - a lump sum or covering a particular part of the project would be amazing and a great way to contribute. Any funding will be a huge step in the right direction for our community and helping us get things underway. We would also love to meet you if you are ever passing though!
