This is about the Footes saving David's Hall
Marlborough
David William Foote, grandson of our ancestor Robert Benjamin Foote donated land at Homewood in the Marlborough Sounds to build a War Memorial Hall shortly after WWII. Plans for the hall were first mooted at a meeting of the Pelorus Sound Branch Federated Farmers at David Foote's home in Homewood Bay on 5 October 1946. The RSA sponsored the scheme and the hall on the donated land, was opened by the MP Thomas Shand in 1953. The WWI plaque on the outside wall contains our Martin Andrew Simpson Killed in Action in 1915 at Gallipoli. The memorial's future now lies in the hands of the Marlborough Community and descendants of the pioneering families from the area. A little from everyone could made a big difference to it's survival.
I am a descendant of one of the pioneering families from the Marlborough Sounds. It was David Foote's vision to have a War Memorial Hall on the land he donated. I am helping to save this memorial for future generations.
