Hugo got hit by a car

Sometime on Tuesday the 14th of January 2020 Hugo was hit by a car. He was taken to his vet (Rappaw Tawa) for an after hours appointment. He was assessed, given morphine and then the vet managed to get one X-ray. Although more X-rays are needed, it was found that Hugo has a king contusion and a broken pelvis. He needed proper monitoring throughout the night and was taken to the after hours vet.

It is the early hours of Wednesday morning that I am writing this.

At 7am Wednesday, Hugo will be picked up and taken back to his vet in Tawa where he will be sedated and more X-rays will be done. (He wasn’t sedated initially because he was showing signs of head/neurological trauma and sedating him could’ve been fatal. The vet was only able to get the X-ray she could because he had morphine for the pain and was so sore he wouldn’t move. But, then moving him further to get better images was too painful for him, hence why they are waiting till the morning to do further X-rays.)

Hugo has a lung contusion (blood on the lungs) and a broken pelvis from being hit by a car. The lung contusion should resolve itself but he needs monitoring (Incase it gets worse and he can’t breathe) and medication as he is in pain. He will require surgery for his pelvis.

At this stage, the Tuesday and Wednesday’s appointments are approximately $1200. Surgery will be at Massey in Palmerston North and could be $3000. All funds raised will go to Hugo’s vet costs from being hit by a car.
