Humanitarian Aid in Ukraine - where it is needed most

Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui

We are a group of Ukrainian-born kiwis living in Manawatū. We all have family in Ukraine and are personally affected by the war in our country.

Many kiwis have approached us for guidance regarding the best place to donate to support the people of Ukraine. Well known, easy to navigate charities are based outside of Ukraine, come with high fees and take a very long time to get to the people in need. Organisation based within Ukraine tend to be difficult to navigate, are not in English and their work is at risk of getting interrupted by the war.

We have created this Give a Little Page to get around these issues. Our aim is to fundraise money towards Humanitarian Aid in Ukraine. As we have seen already, over the course of this war, some regions are affected more than others, and where money is needed most changes day by day.

Our aim is to get money to those most in need. As we have direct contacts in Ukraine we can check in with locals which areas need the most help and which local charities can provide that help, making each monthly donation based on that information. We will update this page with every donation we make.

All donations are paid into an account specifically set up for this cause by a member of the Manuwatu Ukrainian community. 100% of the funds are then transferred to local Ukrainian charities.

Use of funds

All funds raised will go towards Humanitarian Aid in Ukraine.

Our focus is: medical supplies, medical care, food, water and shelter.

DONATION UPDATE - $500 has gone to Ohmatdyt, a hospital that continues to treat children injured in the war  20 September 2022

Ohmatdyt is the largest children's hospital in Ukraine, treating up to 20,000 children annually. Based in Kyiv, it was affected by explosions in the early days of Russian invasion. After patients were evacuated for safety, 300 staff remained, many moving in to live in the hospital full-time, ready to treat injured children.

They have since treated a countless numbers of patients. The stories are heartbreaking and it is difficult for us to recount them here (we have instead attached a few links below). As the war dragged on, many children are now receiving rehabilitation and psychological help.

Many children's lives have been saved thanks to the staff of Ohmatdyt.
