Raising funds for the Lower Hutt Hospital ICU whanau area or for ICU equipment in memory of Remy Townsley
Wellington
In memory of our beautiful, unique and loving son Remy Townsley we would like to raise money for the Hutt Hospital ICU. Our son was very dear to us and we were all in a state of shock when he was admitted into ICU. He spent 4 days and nights in the ICU unit until unfortunately he passed. We as a family were so supported by all of the ICU staff. The clinical nurse manager Susan was amazing to my son talking to him throughout and helping us to understand what was happening. Andrew, our doctor was clear and straight up with us right from the beginning and went out of his way to continue to be involved in his care. Ravi also helped us at the end. So many other doctors and nurses were also involved but we would also like to mention Heather, Carmel and Monica who helped us through the nights.
We were kindly allowed to stay in the unit overnight on a borrowed chair-bed from the children’s ward. For me as a mum it was so important to not be separated from my 14 year old son. I was able to sleep a bit and spend hours of time with my son saying goodbye. We would love to give back to this very special unit by donating money to make the whanau unit more comfortable with families.
If you knew Remy and loved him as much as we all did please help our wonderful ICU.
My son was recently cared for by the Hutt Hospital ICU staff and although our son died we wanted to give something back to the unit for the beautiful and respectful way in which they treated our son.
Primarily for funding extra facilities for the whanau room. If there is a surplus then the rest would be used for any equipment for ICU or facilities for the staff area. All decisions will be made in partnership with the Hutt Hospital ICU team.
Photos of the furniture - final update 3 November 2021
We have received some photos from the ICU of Remy’s furniture bought with your kind giving.
The black chair is for the ICU room itself and can recline to a flat position. It is for sitting or sleeping in beside the ICU bed or for being able to hold a small child who is in ICU but requires holding. Children sometimes need to spend a night in ICU post operation so this will be a comfort to parents.
The green chair is in the waiting room and is for family who unexpectedly need to stay near their loved ones but can’t stay in the room.
Previously chairs had to be borrowed from other parts of the hospital and only if they were available. Each night I stayed at the hospital with Remy, the ICU was rung asking for the chair back that I was sleeping in. But thankfully due to your kind and generous donations in our son’s memory, the ICU has these two chairs now to support families.
Thank you all so much.
