In memory of Nick Ward - next steps for family

Nick Ward has now been released from the suffering of motor neuron disease, living a remarkable 7 years in the grip of the disease. The last two years has been particularly tough on Nick, Sophia, Amelia and Andrew, as Nick lost all voluntary muscle movement, fought regular infections, and required round-the-clock care.

But we remember the boy and the man who we loved, who made us laugh and think, and who always had a great piece of music to share. We remember his kindness, his sense of social justice, and his devotion to his family.

To honour Nick's life, we must turn our energy to supporting the family after years of living on a disability benefit plus the funds we have managed to raise here on Give-a-Little. As the family re-sets their lives and as Sophia transitions to earner again, it is important that they have time to re-energise, to reflect, and to prepare for the next stage together.

There are of course some big bills to pay. The challenge of getting two lawyers to Nick's side with enough time for them (and energy for Nick) to work though a will was not achieved. His savings for the family are therefore not accessible for at least a year.

Our contributions will be used for household expenses until Sophia finds employment, funeral costs, and legal fees to sort out the will. Of course, we also hope to contribute significantly to Amelia and Andrew's future.
