Hawke's Bay
Hello, my name is Jack Wilkinson, I am 14 years old and compete in Canoe Sprints. Recently I was selected into the New Zealand under 18 team, which will be competing at the Oceania Grand Prix 2018 in Penrith, Sydney in February.
I have been doing Canoe Sprints since I was 11 years old, when my Mum looked for a sport that involved paddling as it was something I really enjoyed. I joined the Hawkes Bay Kayak Racing Club, and from the beginning I have loved Canoe Sprints, even when falling out of my boat many times into the freezing water when I was a beginner! Being asked to trial at 14 for an under 18 team was an awesome opportunity and to make the team is such an achievement.
I have the ambition and determination to be the best I can be and I am proud to have earnt the opportunity to represent my country. I train on the water 6 afternoons a week throughout the year, and have 2 gym sessions a week to work on my conditioning and toning.
The costs associated with this trip is $2000, which includes travel, transfers, accommodation, entry fee and uniform.
I am one of 5 children and have a very supportive family but overseas trips are a stretch for us particularly at short notice, so we would greatly appreciate your support.
Jack has a bright future ahead of him, as his parents we would love for Jack to be able to reach his full potential in the sport he is passionate about and committed to.
The cost of this event is $2000, if we are fortunate to raise more than this we would put the funds towards the next national/international competition.
