Hawke's Bay

From Jensen’s Mum, Maree: I'm finding it hard to express how emotional I get when I look at all the support we have received over the last 3 weeks since Jensen was diagnosed. It's overwhelming. Our family, friends, work colleagues and people we barely know and some not at all, are all supporting our family in this journey. It means the world to us and if we haven't had the chance to thank you, please know how much we appreciate and treasure every single bit of it.

Jensen is doing well at the moment, we are in our first round of chemo and past the first 5 days which are the most intensive. His leukemia levels have reduced and are holding steady which is where we aim to be while we wait to find out when his transplant will be. We had some awesome news this week in that Lily, Jensen’s 4 year old big sister is a match for his bone marrow!

We are settling in for the long haul, Jensen and I will likely be up at Starship for the next 6/7 months, while Paul will attempt to balance life with the girls both down in Napier and up here at the hospital. xx

_______________

Over the Christmas period, the Wilson family had some pretty devastating news...

They found out that their baby boy, Jensen has a rare type of leukemia called JMML. Unfortunately, this type means that chemotherapy is unlikely to be successful and that they will most likely be looking at a Bone Marrow Transplant.

Jensen will still need to go through at least 2 cycles of chemotherapy in order to give him the best chance of successful surgery. Although this time has been quite scary, they know they are in the best place. Starship and the support of their families and friends have been fantastic, especially those who have been looking after them in Auckland.

The Wilson family are amazing, caring and active members of the Hawke's Bay community. They have a beautiful family and we would like to help them through this difficult time as much as possible. Please donate to ease the burden on the Wilson family as they travel to and from Starship Hospital as well as allowing Jensen to have a fun break from his current situation.

Jensen's Bone Marrow Transplant  26 February 2018

Jensen has his new bone marrow! He finished his conditioning chemo last week before his transplant on Thursday. Big sister Lily took being his donor all in her stride and did really well in her theatre visit. She was up and about the same afternoon!

The next few weeks will be the hardest for Jensen as he copes with the delayed effects of the chemo removing his bone marrow and we wait to see Lily’s new bone marrow kick in to start the healing process.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers during this time, and to our family who have gone the extra mile to help us out when we needed it.

xx
