Jewel (52) is a single mother of two whāngai children, a 9 year old daughter and 19 year old son. She also has two grandchildren, a granddaughter who is two years old and grandson that is 8months old.
A Registered Nurse for more than 22 years, Jewel is the sole provider of income for her family.
Jewel is fighting metastatic adenocarcinoma and since diagnosis in 2016 Jewel has had over 40 chemotherapy treatments that have helped her live and deal with the pain she was experiencing.
Recently the chemotherapy that Jewel has been receiving has become less effective. Her pain has returned and is impacting on her daily life at work and the quality of whānau time.
Jewel finds it hard to ask for help, let alone financial support however she needs to fundraise to be able to have an alternative drug will help prolong her life. The alternative drug is Certuximab. It costs $23,000 for the drug and $18,000 for administration of the drug.
Jewel is really important to us, we want her to have the best chance of living well for her and her children.
She is an awesome, strong wahine who has spent a life time supporting and contributing to others and now it is our turn to lend a hand.
The fundraising will ensure that Jewel can receive optimal treatment and enjoy quality time with her children and whānau.
Our goal is to raise $40,000 which will fund the treatment Jewel needs that is not available through the public health system.
Every little bit helps so thanks for your consideration – donate today to help us put whānau first.

Jewel's current situation 23 March 2020
Recently Jewel has become really unwell and has found herself in Hospice to identify the best pain management treatment. Jewel has today been discharged to home now that her pain is under control.
Chemotherapy is no longer a valid option for treatment. The funding received has being used for Jewel to receive unfunded treatment. Unfortunately this has not been successful.
Funds are now being used to keep Jewel comfortable, to pay for future arrangements - such as funeral services, care of her children and other related costs.
Jewel and her family would like to express their appreciation and thanks for your ongoing support. This has made a big difference in reducing her stress, when making future arrangements for herself and her children.
