"Kua hinga he totara nui o te motu" - A great Totara of our island has fallen
It does not get much more local then Jim Hodgetts. My first memory of Jim was on my first day catching the bus to Te Huruhi primary. I was nervous during my first steps towards independence but as the doors to the bus slid open and my mother encouraged me inside, I was greeted by the big, friendly, mustached smile of Jim Hodgetts. He was the man countless parents trusted with their precious cargo each day and his memory will be forever sewn in to the fabric of those he encountered.
Jim was a proud father, raising 6 sons who are true and dear friends of many on Waiheke Island. He was an integral part of our community and his absence from it will be noticeable whether it be from a local rams game, a coffee at the supermarket or travelling on the local bus. This give a little page is created to assist with funeral costs and provide financial relief to his whanau during this time of mourning. Any surplus money will be used to get his rental in order for future tenants.
Many will have fond memories of Jim and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the wider Waiheke community.
