To raise money to fund targeted chemotherapy for breast cancer
Auckland
Julia is a 34 year old mother of 2 beautiful girls; Ayla (2) and Freyja (14 months) and was completing the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (primary)
Just under 4 weeks ago Julia’s life would change forever when she discovered a swollen lymph node in her armpit. Her GP sent her for a precautionary ultrasound and mammogram which would reveal two suspicious areas in the left breast.
3 days after the initial scans, Julia had a biopsy of each of the areas as well as the lymph node, these would come back positive for cancer.
After a whirlwind of CT and MRI scans and what seemed like thousands of appointments, Julia is set to start her chemotherapy. Julia will be undergoing several rounds of targeted chemotherapy before a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction.
Julia is staying positive, focussing on getting well for her daughters and her husband.
Five doctors examined Julia and not one of them was able to feel a lump of any kind, it is a miracle that Julia got herself checked when she did.
Julia needs help to fund a portion of a targeted chemotherapy drug called Perjeta, Perjeta is not currently funded in New Zealand but has shown to be very effective in the treatment of her two positive breast cancer.
I am a friend who wants to do anything to help Julia beat this cancer
Paying for chemotherapy, Perjeta. Any surplus will be used to fund alternative therapy known to aid the recovery of cancer.
Physio, radiation and post op complications 5 May 2021
Hey everyone!
So a lot has happened since my surgery in March. I unfortunately got a post op infection and so 8 weeks later I’m still trying to heal. I’ve got a massive hole in my abdomen and have a special negative pressure dressing on which is helping. I’ve needed a lot of physio to get the movement back into my arms, in particular the left side where my lymph nodes have been removed. There is also a lot swelling which is being dealt with by lymphodema massage.
Right now I’m continuing on my 3 weekly Herceptin infusions, daily hormone blocking medications and once my breast has healed I’ll be undergoing radiation.
That’s it for now, thanks so much for all the support. I’ve been relying on this fund to help with my physiotherapy treatments.
