U23 World Rowing Championships
Otago
Hi, my name is Juliette Lequeux and I have been selected into the U23 New Zealand rowing team competing at the U23 World Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia in late August.
Born and bred in Dunedin, Otago, I started rowing at Otago Girls' High school in 2012. Since 2015 have been rowing for the Otago University Rowing Club.
Taken my passion for rowing to a more competitive level, in 2016 I got selected into the NZ high peformance program, since I have been following programs with upto 14 trainings a week including 5am starts 6 days a week.
2018 presented itself with new challenge - the French national rowing team.
Having french citizenship through my father, I was able to trial for the team and I gained a spot in the french high performance program.
I was selected for the 2019 U23 World Rowing Championships where I competed in the single scull, finishing 6th. This has been my most important international competition to date, it taught me how to compete and what I really wanted out of rowing.
Now that I am back in New Zealand my dream and goal is to 'earn the fern', to represent New Zealand as well as Otago.
This has given me a new strength going into these World Championships - the pride and support I have from my region and country and the motivation this brings me.
From the 16th to the 21st of August I will be competing in Bled and along with this comes large costs. I have to support myself living in Cambridge from May to August as well as paying a $7000 contribution to the trip. I will be working throughout the next months however with upto 14 trainings a week, I won't be able to raise this on my own.
The U23 World Championships is a truly international sporting event, representing over 50 nations.
Please help me to fulfil my dream and to earn the fern for the 2020 U23 World Championships.
I won't disappoint you!
Thank you :-)
