K2 Cycle ride for Imara-Uganda Education Fund

$835 donated
Given by 13 generous donors in 6 weeks

Riding the K2 Cycle event fundraising for Imara-Uganda Education Fund. Bringing Christian hope and education to children in Northern Uganda.

Bay of Plenty

K2 completed!!! After 9hrs 6 mins of riding 190 Kms and 2400m of climbing through beautiful and steep terrain I finally completed the K2 cycle race. I often thought about the young children working in the quarries of Northern Uganda, unable to go to school. Their hardship helped me push on, especially in the steepest parts crossing the mountains.

Thank you to everyone who has donated money and supported me. This fundraiser stays open for a few weeks yet and I am also going to ride in the 160km Lake Taupo cycle challenge on November 24th. If you have not yet contributed please spare a little to help children with no hope in Uganda.

Previously.....

I am planning to take part in K2 cycle event on the 27th October. The Flight Centre K2 is possibly the toughest one day cycle challenge in the Southern Hemisphere. It includes well over 2000 meters of climbing and is 190km long. I have been wanting to complete the ride for several years but after ankle surgery I have had to wait for my chance to take on this challenge. It is also a great opportunity to raise funds for Imara-Uganda. Find out more about the race here: http://www.arcevents.co.nz/k2home/

I am particularly thankful to Koops Cycles in Tauranga for their sponsorship and encouragement. I will be wearing their cycle jersey on the day and encourage you to support their store at 811 Cameron Road. http://koopscycles.co.nz/

The aim of this Christian charity is to advance the education of disadvantaged children living in Northern Uganda through the provision of grants, scholarships and the provision of materials and facilities for education. They have a number of key foci:

Orphans - many of whom are orphaned by Aids

"Returnees” – child soldiers who were abducted by the LRA rebels but have now returned to their families or communities

Girl children in families where, because of poverty, only boys are educated.

I have a personal connection with the charity as I help run their website and my mum is a trustee who regularly travels to Uganda to interview potential students and liaise with the Ugandan schools. Recent projects undertaken include building a new school library and the proposed installation of a computer suite in one of schools. Funds raised will be transferred to the UK bank account of Imara-Uganda Education Fund once the page closes.
