Kaiwharawhara Stream Footbridge for new Trelissick Park access from Wadestown

Trelissick Park lies in the valley between between Wadestown and Crofton Downs/Ngaio. It is very popular with local residents and visitors, who enjoy the excellent sheltered walking opportunities within indigenous ‘wilderness’ bush and along Kaiwharahara and Korimako Streams. The Park includes spectacular gorge landscape, original forest remnant and a diversity of species and habitat. It acts as an ecological corridor between the harbour and Outer Green Belt. It is also an area of historic significance.

The Trelissick Park Group is seeking funds for a footbridge across the Kaiwharawhara Stream. This will link with a new access track into Trelissick Park from Oban Street, Wadestown. Currently many residents of Wadestown/Highland Park do not visit the Park as they have only one entrance, whereas there are six from the other side of the valley. Many residents and users participated in the recent Council survey, showing support by a large majority for the proposed second entrance.

The new footbridge and track from Wadestown will expand walking opportunities in the Park and in the surroundings, as well as access to a new area of the Park for restoration and pest control.
