Student midwives, Kayla Hazeldine and Olivia Porter, are seeking support as they begin fundraising for a Vanuatu placement in 2017.

Kia ora everyone,
Our names are Kayla Hazeldine and Olivia Porter. We are currently second year midwifery students studying distantly in Palmerston North through Otago Polytechnic.
We are about to begin a fundraising journey for our last leg of the programme and we hope that you may be able to help us.
Next year we would like to do a placement in Vanuatu for 4 weeks - an amazing opportunity! Life in Vanuatu is incredibly different compared to New Zealand. The cultural differences, the limited resources, the testing work conditions, and the rest, will all be a challenging yet rewarding experience that will provide us with a lifetime contribution to our midwifery education. We hope to offer our midwifery skills we have to the Vanuatu community and to expand on our knowledge to bring home to our NZ community.
Financially, midwifery has been an incredible tough journey so far and with the unpredictability of our hours required for placements it is difficult to hold regular work. We are doing our best!
We are now calling on all of our whanau, friends, and everyone else interested in supporting us.
We are estimating the need to fundraise $3,000 each for this journey which will cover expenses. Any remaining funds will go towards purchasing supplies that we can offer the Vanuatu hospital we are placed in. If for some reason we are unable to go, the money we fundraise will be passed onto other students.
We would love any support whether it be attending any of our fundraisers, donation of goods, or direct donation into the account that we have. Any help will be hugely appreciated!
Thank you so much for reading, we hope to see you along the way, and thank you for playing an important role in furthering our education.
Please watch this space! :)
Kayla and Liv
