Kenakena School has won a place in the final of the Tournament of Minds competition in Adelaide, representing New Zealand!

Wellington

Tournament of Minds is a competition to test problem-solving and thinking in students from primary and secondary schools. It attracts thousands of participants from New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, South Africa and Uganda.

Kenakena's Year 7 & 8 team won the National title on September 23rd in the Maths and Engineering category when they excelled in a grueling 3 hour lock-up challenge to design and build a wind-powered machine which could launch a small object high in the air and land in a certain place, as well as incorporating their invention into a 10 minute presentation using a range of performance skills.

The teams next challenge, hopefully with your help, will be to raise the $13,000 necessary to get them to the Australasian-Pacific Finals in Adelaide in October.

Kenakena School has previously won this competition in 2013 in Canberra.

Kenakena School's involvement (page creator)

I'm involved in my capacity as Office Manager at Kenakena School, helping to coordinate the fundraising for this project.

About us

Kenakena School is right in the heart of Paraparaumu Beach, a beautiful, diverse New Zealand community. We work together and we place a strong emphasis on rich learning, which simply means that everything we teach and learn is interconnected, allowing children to really understand the work they do.

Use of funds

Funds will be used for airfares and accommodation in Adelaide for the team.
