Help me on my Young Blake Expedition to the Kermadec Islands!
Wellington
Since 2004, the Sir Peter Blake Trust has been creating unique learning opportunities for young New Zealanders. Way back in 2015, I was fortunate enough to attend YELF - a week long program helping young people to realise their potential, focusing particularly on leadership in environmental issues. This was a life changing experience which introduced me to some fantastic people that would become lifelong friends.
Now, would you believe it, I have been selected for another mind-blowing opportunity.
In February, I will be sailing on the HMNZS Canterbury (a big navy ship) to the Kermadec Islands. Together with several other young kiwi's, we will be joining members of the scientific community to participate in important conservation research in the isolated, pristine environment. The islands are located 1000km north-east off the New Zealand coast and it will take several days to reach. The entire expedition will take place from February 24th to March 9th.
“As they learn through the kinds of adventures few of us are likely to experience, they develop environmental insights, awareness, and passions that will be pivotal not only to their own future, but indeed to the future of our planet."
Over a lifetime of appreciation for the natural environment, this represents a opportunity that is hard to beat. I am also very excited to meet and interact with some extremely motivated and inspiring people.
We are asked to contribute $2000 towards the total cost. I would REALLY appreciate your support, even just a few dollars (for you poor university students) would make my heart swell. All proceeds will go directly to the Sir Peter Blake Trust.
