Kiwifolk Fundraiser - New Zealand folk music online.

$650 donated
Given by 14 generous donors in around 6 months

Kiwifolk is looking for donations to support its various services in support of New Zealand folk and acoustic music and dance.

Nationwide

Since the very first days of the world wide web, Mike Moroney has maintained an online presence for New Zealand folk music information: clubs, festivals, artists, recordings and more. What started out as a hobby has now become an indispensable portal for overseas artists planning tours through New Zealand, discussion groups, NZ folk events promotion and music streaming. The main Kiwifolk services are:

- The original website: www.kiwifolk.org.nz: giving up-to-date listings of NZ folk clubs, societies, festivals, artists, sessions and tunes.

- Kiwifolk Radio, www.kiwifolk.com, all NZ folk music and programmes streaming 24/7

- The nz-folk list, a legacy email listserver running since 1992 serving up to 400 subscribers.

- Kiwifolk Page on Facebook

About us

Mike has been a key person in the New Zealand folk music scene for over 30 years, both as a musician and a club and festival organiser. Mike established the Kiwifolk website in the very early days of the World Wide Web, and has maintained it as the go-to resource for local and international acts wishing to tour New Zealand or any other interested person wishing to explore the NZ folk scene.

In addition Mike has run an old-fashioned email list-server (nz-folk@kiwifolk.com) since 1993, which has become a much loved resource for the NZ folk community the world over.

Use of funds

Any money raised is used to offset costs of hosting and streaming, as well as the appropriate APRA licence. Currently around $1800 per annum.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year  13 December 2018

Hi all,

Thank you so much for your generosity in helping keep the Kiwifolk endeavour up and running. And thank you for staying involved and keeping the NZ folk music scene the vibrant and welcoming beast it has always been.

Enjoy your Christmas and maybe I'll see a few of you at the Whare Flat Folk Festival at new year - something I've done without fail for the last 42 years! Four splendid days to recharge the folky batteries.

Cheers

Mike

Good work you do Mike, on behalf of folkies & the music. I'm surprised at the cost to provide the service, and that the donations haven't yet reached even the 1/2 way point. Maybe you can up the donations request promo, or tell us what service is going to be pulled in order to decrease costs? Geoff

Thanks so much Geoff. I'm always looking at ways to reduce the spending, but don't want to pull any of the bits that are working for people.
