A West Coast community collaborative working to create green spaces around the new Grey Health facilities in Greymouth.
West Coast
The Kowhai Project is a West Coast collaborative of community organisations and people who are working to create green spaces around the new Grey Health facilities in Greymouth.
Research shows that when patients are able to connect with nature in hospital settings they recover up to 50% faster, requiring less pain relief and earlier discharge.
The Grey Health facilities will service the entire West Coast community from Karamea to Haast, out to Reefton and Otira.
Elinor Stratford is the Kowhai Project Chair, and Trish Roney is the Secretary. Elinor can be contacted via e-mail at elinor.stratford@gmail.com.
Māia Health Foundation is a charitable organisation dedicated to enhancing healthcare services in the community. Since our establishment in 2015, we have achieved significant milestones and made substantial contributions to various healthcare initiatives.
We collaborate with healthcare providers, businesses, and individuals to raise funds and support projects that address critical healthcare needs. From upgrading mental health facilities for children and youth to funding specialised equipment, our focus is on making a tangible and lasting impact.
Join us in making a difference. Donate, partner, or volunteer with Māia Health Foundation today. Together, we can take the health system from #goodtogreat.
We’re working to raise funds for essential projects to help New Zealanders get the right care, at the right time and in the right place.
The Kowhai Project aims to raise funds to plant predominantly native plants around the open spaces of Grey Health, including an inner courtyard.

We're reopening the page to continue to raise funds in 2018 to 'green up' the new Grey Health facilities. We've had fabulous support from the West Coast community so far and we're well on our way to funding a fabulous native area that will create a healing environment for patients and visitors.
